Een klein overzicht van de kassen zoals ze momenteel bij ons gevuld zijn. Groentes en bloemen, uiteenlopende soorten. Neem gerust een kijkje achter de schermen van een bloemenkweker in de tropen! Groeten, Joost

Thailand spring 2008

Spring is a great time for being outside! At least on the old continent.... but here in the tropics it is not that bad as well. In the middle of the rainy season we took the plane to nearby Thailand to enjoy a short 5-day holiday in the southern region, on the islands called Phuket and Phi Phi. Very nice! Phi Phi is well-known since they recorded the 'Leonardo di Caprio'-movie "The Beach" on that location. Indeed it is a place where you feel like you're in paradise! Although, after 9 o'clock in the morning paradise suddenly becomes quite crowded. Dazzeling amounts of tourists flock the crystal white sands. Huge speedboats drop the vast growing amounts of travellers. Pristine island and beaches? Perhaps after sunset and very early in the morning... Nevertheless it remains a place with fantastic surroundings, fairytale-like settings. We did snorkling, relaxing, famous Thai-massaging and eating loads of Tom Yam Goong, a spicy Thai seafood soup. Certainly a place to return to.....!

Mem op bezoek, maart 2008

Begin dit jaar was het weer zover: moeders op bezoek! Geen verre trips en veel reizelarij, maar gewoon gezellig bij mij thuis. Dat zijn voor mij natuurlijk topmomenten! Ze kwam meerdere malen in aanraking met de rijkdom van de Indonesische fauna (in en om het huis, hierbij op de foto te zien aan de kakkerlak). Ze heeft ook geprobeerd mijn mierenkastje schoon te maken... (dapperrrrrrr!!!).

Voorts zijn we heerlijk uit eten geweest bij Café Batavia.

Ook hebben we een wandeling gemaakt rond het kratermeer 'Kawah Putih', tussen verbrande boomstammen door. Verderop groeiden prachtige boomvarens, soms te lastig om op de foto te krijgen!

A black cobra at work!

Can you imagine what I thought as my boss told me they just caught a black cobra from under our generator? Whhhaaaahahahaaahahaa!!!!! What a joke! As he convinced me to have a look at an empty aquarium where they put it, this is what I saw:

As I went home I did some research via internet and as I found out what other scary creatures are crawling through my garden and surroundings I have to admit that I didn't sleep well that night....
